POSC 35733 Economic Transition in Hungary, Czech Republic, and Croatia
Prerequisites: Upper division standing. This site-enhanced study abroad course would focus on the study of economic transition in Hungary, Czech Republic and Croatia since the revolution of 1989 that toppled Communism in these countries. We would study the process of privatization of formerly state-owned enterprises and the building of a market economy and Capitalism with a comrade face". We would also study the economic impact of European Union Accession on these countries and overcoming the challenges of corruption and the creation of a social safety net."
