Minimum Grade Requirement

The Department of Graphic Design requires a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 at all times.

    Departmental Requirements

A minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA in design is a prerequisite to junior and senior-level graphic design courses. After entrance into upper-division courses, a minimum 2.5 GPA must be maintained to advance. An annual qualifying portfolio examination is required for all students wishing to continue in the Graphic Design Program, whether or not they are graphic design/design studies majors or minors; contingencies may include the student being required to repeat courses or removal from the Graphic Design/Design Studies Program.

    Field Trips

Field trips may be required by instructors of any course. Every effort will be made to ensure that these trips do not conflict with other portions of the student's schedule.

    Honors College

Graphic design majors who plan to pursue Departmental Honors must enroll in ARGD 30003 during their junior year and ARGD 40003 during the next-to-last semester of their senior year.

    Transfer Students

Transfer students must have a 2.5 minimum GPA in design and present a portfolio or photographs/slides of their work for evaluation by the Department of Graphic Design at least one week prior to registration or at the time of advisement.

    Graphic Design Pre-major

Students intending to major in graphic design or design studies or minor in design studies must be designated “graphic design pre-majors” by the Registrar’s Office until passing the first required, qualifying portfolio examination, immediately following the completion of ARGD 20323 Typography I. Then they will be assigned to the BFA, BA or minor, or declined continuation, based on qualification.

    Declaration of a Major

The department requires students to declare a major through the Registrar’s Office following the first required, qualifying portfolio examination, immediately following the completion of ARGD 20323 Typography I. Written Departmental consent is required.

    Student Exhibitions

Undergraduate student exhibitions take place at various times during the year in the Art Galleries at TCU. No work may be removed from exhibitions without department approval. Students must claim their work at the end of each exhibition. The department cannot accept responsibility for the care, storage or distribution of student work.
