School of Interdisciplinary Studies

Established in 2018, the School of Interdisciplinary Studies (SIS) tackles big questions by integrating diverse perspectives, disciplines and methods of inquiry. The School includes departments and programs that provide students with academic opportunities to study across disciplines, using multiple methods: Comparative Race and Ethnic Studies (BA, minor, emphasis, graduate certificate); Women & Gender Studies (BA, BS, minor, emphasis, graduate certificate); African American and Africana Studies (minor, emphasis); LatinX Studies (minor); and the Interdisciplinary Inquiry major (BA or BS). The School also includes distinctive pathway and student success initiatives: The IdeaFactory and University Life.

TCU’s School of Interdisciplinary Studies resurrects a venerable purpose of education – to develop good human beings – while tackling complicated twenty-first century challenges. As a model of the liberal arts in action, interdisciplinary studies provides superb preparation for the workplace.

SIS’s vision is to transform our communities through diversity, equity, and inclusion; to enable scholarly and radical collaborations to model deep, integrated learning; to connect TCU’s academic disciplines, faculty, and students to our broader communities.

SIS is committed to interdisciplinary approaches to address critical social issues of our day. Studies show that interdisciplinary studies is highly effective academic preparation for the 21st century workplace. SIS is an intellectual and innovative space that nurtures scholarship that examines race, gender, sexuality, class, equity, culture and community through an intersectional framework. A pivotal site to advance inclusive excellence at TCU, SIS offers Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees.
