This course surveys the history of the modern African American civil rights movement and uses it as a vehicle to explore the theory and practice of group-centered leadership development; the nature of social movements and the role of grassroots activism; the connections between civil rights and other struggles for social justice, past and present; and the origins and persistence of structural racial inequality in the U.S. (US)
